Great Seal and Perfect for Pelleting
Joseph Sheehan (Princeton, NJ) 9/26/2017 1:36 PM
I manage a lab of 15 people ranging from undergraduates to postdocs and it's hard to find items that everyone likes, but we found it in these Seal-Rite tubes. The lids seal great so you don't have to worry about the caps popping off, but they're easy to open with one hand. This is great if you have a tube in one hand and a pipet in the other. Also the the shape of the tubes provides for perfect pelleting of any culture no matter the density. From mid log to stationary phase I can also easily pipet off any supernatant without a major loss of cells.
Awesome boilproof tube, left over weekend
Matthew Smith (Chapel Hill, NC) 6/4/2013 12:25 PM
I was demo'ing these tubes and used the go-to test to check their boiling capacity without popping the top, by putting 500uL of water in them and placing in a 100 degree celsius dry tube aluminum heat block to see how long they last. With most tubes given to me by the other plastics companies, I usually only get through about 30 minutes until I hear the first "pop" of the cap opening from the pressure built up inside. I did this test of the USA Scientific Seal-Rites on a Friday afternoon, and I haphazardly forgot the tubes were in the dry heat block more than 30 minutes because I had yet to hear the pop I was accustomed to. The day got busy, turned into Friday afternoon, and in a rush to go home, I left the tubes in the heat block over the weekend. When I got back on Monday, I noticed the tubes were still in the block and low-and-behold, the top had not yet popped! These tubes definitely "seal-rite".
